In rebellion
against the absurd, Sapiens, this “ reasonable
animal ”, occasionally seeks to emerge from the mundane. He then
tries to transport himself above his usually enclosed world onto the
adventurous and obscure paths of ecstasy. Ek-stasis, to
be oneself, outside oneself… An initiatic journey awaits he who engages
on this path of intensity, ultimately leading to an apex of ravishment, a
fusion with an intensity in which he participates. As with all initiations, it
is a transformed being which returns, having experienced signifying
intensity. In these perspectives, this article looks to
establish the rave phenomenon as an intensity quest along other contemporary
forms of a religious quest for meaning.
